With iOS 14.6, which was released the other day, it is reported that the Apple Watch Series 3 cannot be updated as it is, and is required to be unpaired and restored.

This issue is specifically related to the Apple Watch Series 3 (GPS model), which has only 8GB of internal storage. This model has previously been reported by multiple users as always getting the error message "There is not enough space to install the update" when trying to update watchOS.

Each time, users deleted third-party apps and deleted content, but the symptoms did not change even if nothing was installed.

According to one 9to5Mac reader (with screenshots below, text in Portuguese), iOS 14.6 simply asks you to unpair and restore your iPhone and Apple Watch in order to update watchOS. It looks like Apple has given up on telling users to manually delete apps and data.

How to unpair and update your Apple Watch is described here. First, create a backup at the same time as canceling the pairing, and restore from the backup when re-pairing.

watchOS 7 or later requires 3GB or more of free space to install, and it was pointed out from the beginning that it would be impossible for the Apple Watch Series 3 internal storage to handle it. 9to5Mac analyzes that it is unlikely that Apple will fix this issue in the future due to the changes in iOS 14.6 that will cause inconvenience to users.

Will this be a harbinger of Apple Watch Series 3 being discontinued and unsupported by the next watchOS 8 (provisional)? Everything should be revealed at the developer conference WWDC21, which will be held soon, and I would like to wait for Apple's official announcement.
