Tweet from twitter@iPhoneMania_jp iPhone Mania March 23, 2022 08:08 until reading completed Approximately 5 minutes 27 seconds Catalyst's fully waterproof case will be released for each model of the iPhone 13 series. I attached the case provided for review to the iPhone 13 Pro (Gold) and tried the usability and waterproof performance.

Trinity announced on March 17th that it will sell the Catalyst's fully waterproof case from March 25th, and has started accepting reservations. Catalyst's fully waterproof case is a fully waterproof case that can be used underwater up to 10 meters, complying with IP68, the highest rating for water and dust resistance. The shock absorption mechanism protects the iPhone from drops from a height of 2 meters, and conforms to the military standard "MIL-STD-810G" of the US Department of Defense. It can also be cleaned and disinfected with soap or an EPA-approved disinfectant. In addition, the current iPhone is IP68 grade (up to 6 meters in water for up to 30 minutes) for the iPhone 13 series and iPhone 12 series, and IP67 grade for iPhone SE (3rd generation) (up to 1 meter for up to 30 minutes). However, Apple explains that the resistance may decrease with normal use, and the iPhone's water resistance is not permanent.

[Review] Thorough protection of iPhone 13! Catalyst's completely waterproof and shockproof case

For the review, we received a fully waterproof case in two colors, “Stealth Black” and “Marine Blue”, for the iPhone 13 Pro. The surface of the package claims to be waterproof to 33 feet (10 meters) and to withstand drops from 6.6 feet (2 meters).

The package contains the case itself, a strap, an extra Lightning port cap, and a mount printed with a 2D barcode that gives access to a video showing how to put it on. The strap and spare cap attached to "Stealth Black" are black. "Marine Blue" comes with a yellow strap and a spare cap. "Stealth Black" has a black case, and "Marine Blue" has a yellow packing and Lightning port cap accented on the blue sides. The back of the case has a smooth feel. It also completely covers the camera part. There is a waterproof packing in the groove on the side of the back case. Looking inside the bottom, the speaker part is covered with a soft membrane. The microphone on the side of the camera is covered with a soft membrane inside the case. The screen side is a clear, soft film-like material. When I measured it with the scale I have on hand, the case weighed 53 grams.

In order to check the waterproof performance of the completely waterproof case, assemble the case and submerge it in water before inserting the iPhone. To open the case, hook your finger on the tab on the bottom and lift. It fits tightly to ensure waterproof performance, so open it slowly while applying force. When assembling the case, press the outer circumference to fit the case while confirming that the waterproof packing is firmly fitted in the groove. Submerge the case in a washbasin filled with water, press the screen cover, try turning it around, and then remove it from the water. There was no water intrusion inside the case, and the waterproof performance was confirmed. In the unlikely event that water enters the inside at this point, there may be a problem with the packing condition, so let's recheck.

A completely waterproof case is attached to the iPhone 13 Pro with the glass film attached. Insert the bottom of the iPhone first, then push the entire case into the case. Then fit the rear case. Push it in with a light force to attach it so that there are no gaps. Firmly close the Lightning port cap. After confirming that the case is closed without any gaps, the installation is complete. I thought it would be difficult to put on because it is a completely waterproof case, but it was surprisingly easy to put on. Even with the glass film attached to the iPhone13 Pro, the case did not rise. The material on the sides is grippy, non-slip, and stable in your hand.

The buttons feel a little harder than before the case was installed, but they are at a level where you can operate them without stress. Catalyst's fully waterproof case features a dial-type switch that operates a patented sound on/off switch. You can turn the sound on and off by rotating it. Touch screen operation is less direct than direct operation, but you can also touch and swipe the edge of the screen. Flick input also needs to be pressed a little harder, but you can do it without problems. Wireless charging is also possible, including MagSafe. However, since the magnetic force is weakened, it cannot be attached to a car stand. You can also open the cover of the Lightning port for wired charging and backing up your iPhone. There are strap holes on the left and right of the bottom of the case, so you can attach it in a convenient position. If you play music or people's voices through the iPhone speaker with the case on, the sound will be a little muffled, but you can hear it. I was able to make voice calls without any problems.

I submerged the iPhone 13 Pro in a completely waterproof case in water on the washbasin. In addition, you can operate the side buttons and volume buttons underwater, but you cannot operate the touch screen. If you operate it before putting it in the water, you can also take pictures and videos with the timer. After immersing it in water for 30 minutes, I took it out and wiped it with a towel. When I took out the iPhone from the case, there was no water intrusion inside, and when I opened the case, there was no water droplets on the iPhone other than the splashes. I did. If water droplets remain on the membrane of the speaker, the sound may not be heard properly. As a cleaning method to ensure waterproof performance, if the waterproof packing or Lightning port cap gets dirty, it is recommended to wash it off with lukewarm water and wipe it off with a cotton swab. Clean the inside of the groove where the packing is installed with a cotton swab.

I tried to summarize the features of the product that cannot be conveyed in words in a simple 8-minute video. Please take a look.

I would like to wear Catalyst's fully waterproof case when enjoying outdoor leisure activities such as skiing and the sea. Sales will begin on March 25 at Trinity Online Store, Apple specialty store KitKat (online store, Rakuten Ichiba store, Yahoo store), and consumer electronics mass retailers nationwide. The Trinity Online Store also distributes a 500 yen discount coupon code. Two colors, “Stealth Black” and “Marine Blue”, are available for iPhone13, iPhone13 Pro, and iPhone13 Pro Max, and one color, “Stealth Black”, is available for iPhone13 mini. The price (including tax) at the Trinity Online Store is 13,200 yen for each model. Reference: Trinity Photo: Apple (hato)
