▲ Organic EL display that is easy to see.
HUAWEI Mate30 Pro pushes the camera performance while firmly holding down the basic performance as a smartphone. This time, let's review mainly the camera function. There are four lenses on the back of the HUAWEI Mate30 Pro. A 40-megapixel Super Sensing camera (wide-angle), a cinema camera (ultra-wide-angle), an 8-megapixel telephoto camera, and a 3D TOF * camera.
* 3D TOF (Time-of-Flight) is a 3D image sensor. It captures the infrared rays reflected from the scanned object, measures the distance, and processes the data. Since the computing power is lower than that of conventional 3D measurement technology, it is possible to take beautiful images with a shallow depth of field and bokeh not only in real-time photographs but also in moving images.
You don't have to be aware of which camera you use to actually shoot. It seamlessly switches the camera according to the scene.
The Horizon display with curved sides is a 6.53-inch organic EL, which is highly visible even outdoors during the day. There is no physical volume button and it can be adjusted by touching the side.
Photo function
Since VIDEO SALON is a video magazine, I was thinking of reviewing mainly the video function, but this unit has a wonderful photo function, so I took various pictures. There are several modes, but basically, if you shoot in "Photo" mode, it will set the appropriate settings for the situation. It's great to be able to take good pictures easily.
▲ The one that pressed the shutter casually. The subtle shades of blue and clouds in the sky, and the various colors and details of fresh green are also beautiful. At a glance, you can take a picture called "Beautiful".
▲ Shoot the moon with the zoom set to 30 times the limit. Since it was taken with the digital zoom in the dark, the image quality deteriorates, but the details of the moon surface can be seen.
▲ Surprisingly, it was taken by hand. Brighter than you can see with the naked eye. Despite the handheld shooting, the stars are reflected in the sky.
▲ In aperture mode, you can change the depth of field from f0.95 to f16 to take impressive pictures. It uses a 3D TOF camera to blur the background software-wise. Flare ghosts appear depending on the direction of the light source, but I tried to use it positively because it is a beautiful ghost that does not look like a smartphone lens.
▲ "Pro" mode with detailed settings. You can manually make detailed settings such as focus, ISO, and shutter speed. You can also shoot stars by adjusting the settings (exposure time 30 seconds ISO1600).
▲ Light pen mode. By exposing for a long time while moving the light with a light pen etc., you can draw mysterious pictures and letters in the dark.
Video function
HUAWEI Mate30 Pro has various interesting features in videos. It supports 4K / 60p and 4K HDR + for normal shooting, and can shoot images with beautiful bokeh and a shallow depth of field.
Super slow up to 7680fps. It is very interesting to express movements that cannot be seen with the eyes, such as time lapse and super slow. The HUAWEI Mate30 Pro can shoot such invisible images at a maximum of 7680 fps (resolution is 720p, 1080p is a maximum of 960 fps). You can see the dandelion's fluff flying with the naked eye, but when you shoot it with Super Slow, it gives you a different impression. I also saw a strange face of my cat, which I can't usually see. You can also shoot by detecting movement with a motion sensor. However, it is better to shoot things that move unexpectedly, such as cats, without using a motion sensor.
In addition, image stabilization is quite effective. I didn't try it this time, but it is said that stable images can be taken even when shooting while walking. Since it is possible to shoot in the dark with a maximum of ISO51200, it is possible to shoot even in the moonlight. It's nice to be able to shoot even in a dimly lit room. However, not limited to this smartphone, if you set it to a high ISO, noise will be added as it is.
By the way, I used Small Rig's smartphone holder for this shoot. Open the bottom plate to use it as a stand, and close it to use it as a grip. It can also be attached to the Arca-Swiss pan head for stable shooting with a smartphone.

summary
The camera of HUAWEI Mate30 Pro has both practicality and unique functions, and you can shoot intuitively without thinking too difficult. It is one that will entertain your daily shooting life with a slightly different expression.
